About Us
It's taken a long time to get here!
Hi there! My name is Tara Ashlock Wieland and I live on a small piece of land outside of Jefferson City, Missouri with my husband, John. We have different passions (mine is goats, obviously, and his is daylilies). Luckily we like each others' hobbies and it all works out--as long as the goats don't get out and eat his precious daylilies!
I grew up in a small town in Southwest Missouri and I have always loved animals and being outdoors. I started showing dairy goats when I was in 4-H and continued into high school with my FFA project. I owned mainly Alpine and Saanen goats registered with the American Dairy Goat Association. I have a lot of good memories traveling around the area with my sister and niece and nephews, sleeping in barns and clipping goats for show (ok, clipping wasn't my favorite...).
After high school I had to sell my goats while I attended college and tried to enter the "real world". I missed having goats so when I finally was able to buy a few acres I got a few head--this time Nubians!! I loved my Nubians, but dairy goats are A LOT OF WORK. Unfortunately, life changed again and I had to move due to my job. The goats (and cattle and truck and trailer and...) all had to be sold.
Fast forward a couple of years to when I met John. We decided to buy a home together (I was in an apartment at the time) and I demanded to have a few acres for my animals. This time I wanted to try meat goats (remember, dairy goats are a lot of work!). I did research and got advice from others. I decided on the Savanna breed due to their hardiness, meatiness and overall good looks!
I LOVE MY SAVANNA GOATS!!
I'm still learning about Savannas and building my herd to where I want it. It's still work but I'm enjoying every minute of it (almost!).
I'm focused on breeding Savannas that are easy to manage, excellent mothers, meet the breed standard and thrive on pasture/browse and hay with little grain.
I enjoy talking about my goats and sharing my experiences. I love meeting other goat owners so just give me a hollar if you want to "talk goat"!
